Memorial Day Message from Senator Janet Nguyen

Dear Neighbor:

Today, we pause to pay tribute to our Fallen Heroes, an extraordinary group of individuals who gave of themselves so that you and I can be free.

On this sacred day, I often find myself experiencing an array of emotions that range from sadness to immeasurable gratitude. I am saddened by the staggering loss of life but beholden by the stories of ordinary citizens, among them our grandparents, fathers, mothers, siblings, daughters and sons, who embarked on journeys to defend freedom, without regard for personal consequences. To date, over 1.2 million extraordinary heroes have made this ultimate sacrifice over the last 241 years.

Together, the collective sacrifice of these over 1.2 million heroes has been the shield that has protected our nation from harm, allowing us to prevail as a country. It is thanks to them that we can fly the flag of the United States, with great dignity and pride, knowing that this emblem stands for freedom.

In addition to paying tribute to the fallen, today, we must also not forget to honor their families, who have set an example of resilience by continuing to live courageously through unimaginable pain. I hope that these families find solace in knowing that the sacrifice of their loved one, has a great significance on the bearing of this nation and that they will be forever remembered as heroes.

On this Memorial Day, I hope that you will join me in echoing a message of gratitude that will continue to resonate for many generations.

Sincerely,

JANET NGUYEN

Senator, Thirty-Fourth District
